In recent years, the growth of Peruvian blueberry exports has been exponential and continues to highlight its presence as the leading exporter globally.
Peru has experienced a 16-fold growth in the exported volume of blueberries in less than a decade, going from 17.386 tons in 2013 to 275.837 tons exported in 2022.
In 2016, Peru had 13 varieties. By 2020, there were 46, and by the end of 2022, the number of varieties had risen to more than 60.
Due to the great interest in the production of Peruvian blueberries, a technical tour was carried out in the southern area, visiting the towns of Paracas, Pisco and Ica with a group of attendees from different countries, in which specialists and exhibitors from the International Seminar on Blueberries Peru 2022 participated to witness, analyze and support the cultivation of blueberries in the coastal dunes of Peru.
The cutting-edge projects were reviewed in detail, their results were observed and observations on the development of plants in the field were discussed.
At the end of the tour, there was the opportunity to appreciate the farms' advanced post-harvest technologies, the results of the strategies used by technicians to maintain the quality of their fruit until it reaches the destination market.
Everyone was impressed by the facilities to irrigate the plants in the middle of the Peruvian desert, with sophisticated fertilization systems, managing to take the fertilizers to different sectors depending on the variety and its needs.
