Argentina: Cranberry exports grew this year 60%

The exports of blueberries grew this year the 60 percent with respect to 2015, with a historical record of 5.400 tons, thanks to the expansion of the Tucumán airport "Lieutenant General Benjamín Matienzo".

The extension of the commercial platform allowed the departure of 78 cargo flights that operated simultaneously with the commercial and health, without restrictions and continuously during the 24 hours.

The works included improvements in the streets of the platforms and the cargo sector where the fruit is stored, plus the acquisition of new equipment by the state company Intercargo to optimize the operation, which decreased loading and unloading times .

At the same time, a coordinated action plan was made between Customs, SENASA and APHI / USDA (equivalent body in the United States) to prevent insects from accessing each load.

As reported officially, the implementation of the various measures throughout this year managed to generate historical records, both in exported volume and in number of flights.

It is also worth mentioning that of the more than 5 thousand tons exported, the 70% went on day flights, while the 80% of the cargo went to the United States, while the remaining 20% went to the European Union ( EU).

The Ministry of Transport of the Nation estimates that this modernization and expansion of the commercial platform to 7790 square meters opens the door for exports to climb up to 8 one thousand tons at a rate of four daily flights during 30 days.

Officials of the portfolio led a new working table with producers, provincial authorities, national agencies, airlines and logistics and cargo companies of the airport terminal to analyze the results of the campaign.

It remains to say that next year the airport will receive new investments to improve the runway and the comprehensive renovation of the terminal is foreseen, as well as the expansion of passenger parking.
