Future Minister of Agriculture of Chile

Esteban Valenzuela: "Our goal is for Chile to be an example of green, diverse, safe and environmentally responsible agriculture"

"I want to generate unity with the different souls of our agriculture, boost it with sustainability, and ensure that the tax reform includes the territorial with structural convergence funds"

There is still more than a month to go before the new Government of Chile takes office, but the entire Cabinet of President-elect Gabriel Boric has been nominated. Citizens are already beginning to identify them and try to find out about the plans of the ministers in each sector, although this is very difficult, because most do not make official statements until they officially take office on March 11.

Blue Magazine spoke with Esteban Valenzuela, future Minister of Agriculture of Chile, an interview from which we advance a small preview.

The diversification of Chilean agriculture was the main objective that he distinguished for his ministerial administration. Also its commitment to greater support for family farming, "combining the dynamism of the fruit sector with greater union power, better wages and technology transfer to all actors", in addition to ensuring environmental and water responsibility.

“Today we must develop the activity without destroying native forests and have serious and sustainable water governance. The cherry industry has had chiaroscuro and the berry industry has shown modernity and a relevant contribution in the center-south”, she comments frankly.

The entire conversation, in which he referred to water management, the agri-food industry, territories, exports, and everything related to the agricultural sector, will be published in the next edition of Blue Magazine, which will be launched in the context of the inauguration of the Blueberry World Tour, at the XIX International Blueberry Seminar to be held on March 9 and 10 at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center, in Peru.
