Technology: Lasers could be the solution to prevent birds from eating the crops

When it comes time to harvest the blueberry crops in some areas of the northeastern United States, farmers must deal with an enemy that permanently attacks them: Birds.

But after years of this declared war, a Dutch company presented at 2018 what some point to as the solution to the conflict. It is a project in development, but that has already shown some effectiveness.

Is Bird Control Group, who have relied on a model that uses lasers to keep birds away from berries. And although the technique has proven to be diligent, the costs seem to be the least attractive of the proposal.

In order to "enjoy" the service, the farmer must cancel Bird Control Group US $ 9.500 for each of the automatic lasers. Which, initially, looks like too big an expense, taking into account the amount of hectares that the berry crops have.

Wayne Ackermann, director of business development for North America Bird Control Group, ensures that the technology they apply has been successful, and that they hope to extend it to other plantations that are not only blueberries.

About the project, Ackermann explains that one of its biggest advantages is that lasers do not emit noise as other alternatives that have been implemented to combat the invasion of birds in large crops.

It emphasizes that the lasers project in the eyes of the animals what would resemble a trunk, a situation that makes them feel threatened and that they simply prefer to leave the place before continuing there.
