They prepare an automated system for phytosanitary certification in Chile and Argentina

The implementation of an electronic phytosanitary certification system for the export and import of products related to the agri-food sector of both Chile and Argentina is in the development stage.

According to the preliminary information, representatives of the Argentine National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality (Senasa) and the Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Sector of Chile (SAG) have been meeting for weeks to refine the details that will govern the new instrument.

The last meeting took place in the province of Mendoza (Argentina) where the representatives of both public bodies evaluate the new control mechanisms that will be put into practice in the Cristo Redentor international crossing, which unites both nations.

It transpired that, although there is no date or details about the implementation of the bilateral agreement, the actions will be taken within the framework of the "Sistema e Phyto", an initiative that was born within the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) encourages the National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPO)

Part of the philosophy of the system is based on the implementation and constant development of tools that allow advance in technological matters, in order to optimize the processes of sale and purchase of products among the nations attached to the agreement.

"It is a system that is developed online, without paper records, which is connected internationally with the countries that are already implementing it as a pilot test, issuing in parallel the phytosanitary certificate in paper and electronic, stressed the Senasa.
