Chile is the destination of Peruvian blueberries

Chile, is the first blueberry exporter in the world, with more than 100 thousand tons that are sent to different international destinations, mainly from the US and Europe, however, the Peruvian fruit has found a marketing niche in the country that extends its range of commercial possibilities

A few months ago the agreement was signed between the authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Peru, and those of the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile, so that they can enter Peruvian blueberries to the Chilean markets, complying with the sanitary restrictions already agreed between both state institutions. .

Jorge Barrenechea, head of the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru, Senasa, and Ángel Sartori, of the Agricultural and Livestock Service of Chile, SAG, finally signed the final work plan and protocol for the export of Peruvian blueberries to Chile, ending technical negotiations developed over months.

In the context of these negotiations several production sites were visited to verify the production reality and the chain of the process towards transport and commercialization. Mainly visited farms of agrofrutícola production located in the zone of the Peruvian coast, specifically Virú and Chao, in the region of La Libertad.

This agreement reached, as a result of the efforts of the Peruvian Minagri, implies that the exporting companies such as Camposol, Talsa, Arato and Damper must work intensively in the perspective of significantly reducing, or definitively eradicating, the fruit fly populations, as an unavoidable requirement of the agreement.

Peru has vast experience in avocado exports to Chile, from the areas of Ica, La Libertad, Arequipa and Moquegua, so it will not be difficult for the agrofruticultural industry of that country to comply with the sanitary requirements and materialize the export of blueberries to Chile , opening a new market for Peruvian fruit exports, which is added to the permanent commercial destinations of the US, China and Brazil, among others.

Chile, is the first blueberry exporter in the world, with more than 100 thousand tons that are sent to different international destinations, mainly from the US and Europe, however, the Peruvian fruit has found a marketing niche in the country that extends its range of commercial possibilities, also adding the explorations that are developed in South Korea, Malaysia, India and Japan.

In the case of the Chilean market, the Peruvian industry is looking for a nearby destination for the production of blueberries from varieties that do not offer the best conditions of arrival to distant or too distant destinations, such as the markets of Asia and Europe.
