Technology: New system will benefit Chilean exporters

The Ministry of Agriculture of Chile spoke about a new methodology that will begin to apply as of this month for exporters. It is an interconnection between several platforms, among which the Integrated Foreign Trade System (Sicex), the Logistic and Port System of Valparaíso, Directemar and the National Customs Service stand out.

Antonio Walker, head of the Chilean Government's agricultural portfolio, highlighted the relevance of this merger, since, in his opinion, exports in that sector will be facilitated from now on. “We have a forecast of an increase in forestry and agricultural exports for the next season,” Walker mentioned.

In this context, the minister assured that the growth projection in agricultural exports, especially in Asia, will be around 6% by the end of this year. For Walker, market diversification is what will make Chile emerge victorious from the so-called "trade war" between large markets such as the United States and China.

Walker also referred to how Chile has been commercially penetrating markets such as North Africa, Central Asia, as well as Southeast Asia. "We have to enter these territories much more strongly with our products, so this system will help us advance in this," said the minister.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, the unification of all these systems will result in a direct benefit for those engaged in export. He mentioned that this in turn will improve competition among exporting actors, and pointed out that the document cycle required to carry out an export will be shortened by 10 days, as well as the VAT recovery in a similar period.

Another example of improvements cited by Walker is the possibility of tracking the status of containers. That is, if before you did not know the whereabouts of any of these merchandise deposits until seven days later, today it will be feasible to know in real time.

Walker explained that the 35% of silvoagricultural exports are shipped through the port of Valparaíso, so he emphasized the improvement of competitiveness and diversification of markets to where Chile should go.
