S33 - Water and Nutrient Relations and Management of Horticultural Crops

Water and nutrients represent important resources that limit and control horticultural production. Both to reduce the pressure on resources and to increase the profits of producers, an increasing efficiency in the application of water and fertilizers is required. The objective of the symposium is to share and discuss current issues and advances in the science of water physiology, nutrients and the practice of water and nutrient management in horticultural crops. Special attention will be given to the emerging global problems, including the use of water of alternative and marginal quality, the environmentally responsible management of water and nutrients, the advances in the automated and precise application of water or fertilizers.

The symposium is aimed at anyone involved in the irrigation and / or fertilization of any horticultural crop; Physiologists interested in plant water and mineral nutrition; researchers, extension professionals, producers and industry professionals (irrigation and fertilizers). Due to the fact that advanced technology and precision agriculture are intertwined in modern irrigation techniques, irrigation and agricultural engineers would benefit and should participate.
