Rebound in fruit and vegetable exports in July driven by watermelon, stone fruit and red fruits

The Spanish export of fresh fruits and vegetables in the month of July has grown by 14% compared to the same month of the previous year, totaling 1 million tons, and 24% in value, standing at 1.002 million euros, growing both vegetables and fruits, the majority in the month analyzed and especially highlighting the increases in watermelon, stone fruit and red fruits.

According to data from the Customs and Excise Department of the Tax Agency, made public on Monday, watermelon was the most exported product in July, with 225.609 tons, 15% more than in July 2020, for a value of 94,7 million euros (+ 20%). Stone fruit exports also grew, such as nectarine with 86.647 tonnes (+ 7%) and 108 million euros (+ 14%), apricot, with 18.776 tonnes (+ 36%) and 30,2 million euros ( + 36%) and plum, with 26.321 tons (+ 30%) and 29,5 million euros (+ 36%). Red fruits also registered a positive behavior in the month of July, highlighting the increase in strawberries with 7.416 tons (+ 315%) or blueberries, with 5.713 tons (+ 148%)

Foreign sales of vegetables also grew in July compared to the same month of the previous year, by 13% in volume and 23% in value, amounting to 257.200 tons and 264,5 million euros, highlighting the pepper, with 31.074 tons (+ 13%), potatoes, with 34.444 tons (+ 10%) and tomatoes, with 22.317 tons (+ 18%).

The notable increase in the volume exported in the month of July, which also occurred in June, has made it possible to offset the decrease in the quantities of January, February, March and April, so that exports up to July have increased by 1,4% more than the same period of the previous year, totaling 8,1 million tons, 1,4% more than in the same period of the previous year, and the value increased by 5%, totaling 9.876 million euros.
