Coyhaique-. As a success has been described by the Seremi de Agricultura, Horacio Velásquez, the program related to fruit trees, initiative that seeks to increase farm income through diversification with gardens, initiative that has allowed to increase the number of hectares cultivated with species such as strawberries, currants, sarsaparilla, raspberry and blueberries, all with a high level of antioxidants.

"The Ministry of Agriculture has bet on new items, understanding that it is essential to diversify production on the same property. Today we see that this initiative has been a success, since we can see that the investment made is already recovered the first season, being an important and immediate economic return for our producers, "said the Ministerial Regional Secretary of Agriculture, Horacio Velásquez.

The program "Transfer for Business Development with innovative models in minor fruit trees", is part of the Extreme Zones Development Plan, and is executed by the Seremi de Agricultura with support from the FIA Agricultural Innovation Foundation, and its financing is charge of the Regional Government of Aysén.

In this season the orchards have been increased with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and sarsaparilla, likewise, work has been done on the protection of the crop under plastic and thus protect the production against the inclemencies of the characteristic climate of each zone.

Currently, the producers / beneficiaries of this initiative are harvesting the second season of fruit, and it is expected that by the end of this program they will incorporate - by the way - more than 25 a thousand kilos of fruit in the regional market.

"The products harvested this second season can be found in the different fairs held in the towns of Puerto Ibáñez, Puerto Aysén and Coyhaique. So we call on consumers to prefer local products, organic fruits that are cultivated by our rural families, "said Velásquez.

It should be noted that under the umbrella of the program linked to fruit trees have been established in total 18 orchards (4 in Rio Ibáñez, 4 in Puerto Aysén and 10 in Coyhaique).

Fruit growing should be observed as a strong item in the region, understanding that it is a very good alternative for the diversification of items in the properties, and that it has a market that can be expanded, which is a very good business for families of the rural sectors.
