Bad news for some, opportunity for another

The extreme weather conditions in Europe, with high temperatures and frosts in spring, have impacted fruit production, putting the supply of the processing industry at risk. A report by Agrimundo states that losses are estimated between 60% and 70% in sour cherries, 30% in strawberries, especially in Eastern Europe, 20% in raspberries, of at least 65% in plums and more than 70 % in blueberries.

Apparently, Chile is taking advantage of the misfortune and, according to figures from Odepa with information from Customs, exports of strawberries, raspberries, currants, blueberries and frozen apples, plums and dehydrated apples, and canned sour cherries to the EU, between January and June of 2017, 5,6% grew in relation to 2016.
