Blueberry producers celebrate the agreement with the European Union

From the Association of Blueberry Producers estimate that in two years could enter into force the agreement, which implies the possibility of exporting zero tariff to several countries in Europe.

The Association of Blueberry Producers of Mesopotamia Argentina (Apama) celebrated the agreement between the EU and Mercosur, since from its entry into force the entry of blueberries for export into Europe will have zero tariff in some countries.

Currently, the Argentine export of blueberries pays tariffs between 3% and 9%, depending on the country of destination. With the entry into force of the agreement, in most countries it will be eliminated, and in the rest it will be reduced by up to half or more.

From Apama they also anticipated that there is a strong possibility that the fungicides imported in Argentina lower the tariff they pay to enter the country, as well as the importation of packing and harvesting machines.

"Although in the fine print with the different countries there may be modifications, the only possibility that the tariff is reduced in some cases and that it falls to zero in others is great news for a sector that is investing and betting on the development in Argentina, competing in the export with other countries like Peru sometimes in unequal conditions. This news is undoubtedly an incentive to continue choosing the blueberry and continue to do so in our country, "said Alejandro Pannunzio, president of the entity that brings together producers of Mesopotamia and also vice president of the Argentine Committee of Blueberries (Abc).

It is estimated that, if the negotiation continues and progress is made, the agreement would enter into force within two years, approximately, and the measure of reduction or zero tariff would already impact for the harvest 2021 / 2022.-
