Lobesia botrana in cranberry and vine crops in Entre Ríos

Before the detection of four cases of lobesia botrana in blueberry and vine crops in the province, the Production Secretariat participated in the public-private integration work where an emergency committee was formed to increase the capacity for monitoring and monitoring of these fruits.

After the detection for the first time in Entre Ríos of four positive cases of lobesia botrana in blueberry and vine crops, the Production Secretariat, through the Directorate of Agriculture and Apiculture, participated in Concordia, in the work of public-private integration where formed an emergency committee to increase the capacity for monitoring and monitoring these fruits.

During the meeting, the quarantined and contingency zones were detailed, as well as information on the actions to be carried out in the same and in the rest of the blueberry and vine crops of the province.

And the emergency committee was formed with the aim of keeping the productive sector informed and carry out the actions of diagnosis and control of the pest jointly.

Lobesia botrana is a moth that mainly attacks the vine, so it is also known as the vine moth, because it is the main host, but it can also attack blueberries, as happened in our region.

The body of the adult moth is about six millimeters and its larvae grow on flowers, green berries, ripe and inside them.

The impact of this plague is that it causes a decline in production due to the destruction of the fruits and although the system by which the plague entered the province has not yet been defined, there are some indications of how it could have been, but In any case, "until the diagnosis is made, we can not mention the form," said the director of the National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA), Regional Center Entre Ríos, Carlos Zurbriggen.

Emergency Committee

In relation to the lines of action proposed, the director of Agriculture and Apiculture of the province, Lucio Amavet, explained that in a first instance "It was resolved to intensify the monitoring as a contingency plan, carrying and installing a trap per farm or productive estate of each producer in the province.

This refers that we have around 60 producers and 700 hectares of blueberries that are going to be monitored.

Then we will evaluate the results that this trapping system throws to determine if a chemical control system is necessary in lobesia in both blueberries and vine.

In this way, reliable data will be obtained on how the disease progresses or not and with these results we will meet again in the emergency committee and establish a new work plan ".

For his part, the representative of the Association of Producers of Blueberries of Mesopotamia (Apama), Alejandro Pannunzio, indicated that as "A first capture was made and it is in the number of captures where there is the difference between being in contingency or already moving to another degree of risk or damage of the plague, that is why as an Association we are putting all the resources to mitigate any effect that there may be of the plague on our crop, in this way to try to anticipate the damage that may be generated ".

Training

The director of the Regional Center Entre Ríos del Senasa, Carlos Zurbriggen, stressed that "this emergency committee, characterized by its public-private integration, is carried out within a work program that allows us to formalize it and include it within the national surveillance system." He also stressed that "training was defined as another line of action where INTA and Senasa personnel will be summoned to prepare all the technical personnel of the region."

With regard to the advice and prevention of this plague, the director of Agriculture and Beekeeping, Lucio Amavet, said that "the Production Secretariat of the province will provide all human resources that are available in strengthening the training" and stressed that within the contingency plan it was defined that they are destined to the technicians of the arandanero sector and to the producers; in order to sensitize a disease that is new, since it is the first appearance of history in this sector of the province. "

Finally, Amavet said that "a disease awareness system is needed quickly so that all the technicians of each of the producers and themselves can know not only the disease but also learn how it is controlled, how it is fought or how it is monitored. "

The representatives of the organizations that participated in the meeting and are part of the committee are: Alejandro Pannunzio, by the Association of Blueberry Producers of Mesopotamia (Apama), Velerio Ortiz by the Vitivinulturists Association of Entre Ríos (Aver), Lucio Amavet by the Directorate of Agriculture and Apiculture of the province, dependent on the Ministry of Production, Carlos Zurbriggen, by the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa), Regional Center Entre Ríos, Guillermo Meier, by the INTA Concordia Agricultural Experimental Station.
