IV International Seminar "Agriculture in Harmony". Ana Patricia Luengas: “When I arrived in Chile there was almost nothing about bio-inputs”

Ana Patricia Luengas is Technical Manager of BioPunto Limitada, a company that has been selling products from the EMTM Technology for four years in Chile, in an effort to provide adaptable solutions to the environment as an alternative to the excessive use of chemicals in agriculture.

What is EMTM Technology?

It is a probiotic and natural technology, developed 28 years ago in Japan by Dr. Teruo Higa. EM ™ stands for “Effective Microorganisms ™” and is a composite of highly efficient and beneficial organisms. These microorganisms are neither harmful, nor pathogenic, nor genetically modified, nor chemically synthesized. The microorganisms found in EM ™ belong to 3 well-known groups: Lactic acid bacteria (used in making yogurt, cheeses, etc.), yeasts (used to make breads, beers, wines, etc.) and bacteria phototrophic or photosynthetic (present in green algae and in any soil particle).

The executive explains that as well as in the most known fermentation processes, EM ™ accelerates the breakdown of compounds such as proteins, sugars, fats and fibers, promoting the rapid decomposition of organic matter. In addition to this, the EM ™ works in two primary ways: a) by competitive exclusion of other harmful microorganisms and b) by the production of beneficial byproducts such as enzymes, organic acids, amino acids, hormones, and antioxidants that promote the health of the environment. The facultative quality of EM ™ allows you to extend your benefits to anaerobic and aerobic environments.

Has it been applied in blueberries?

In blueberries we have started applying these products in the north and we do not have problems in terms of substrate, we are applying it in bags, with coconut fiber and everything that implies the cultivation in hydroponics. I think they will be a contribution in terms of mushroom combat, water purification and crop yield, as well as the condition of the fruit that will be firmer and more durable.

The executive of Bio Punto is Colombian and years ago she learned that technology existed in almost all countries in Latin America, except in Chile, so she came four years ago to explore the Chilean market and finally stayed with the commercial representation in the country.

"Only now the SAG is beginning to regulate the use and commercialization of bio-inputs"Comments and ensures that this type of organic technology is used more than 20 years ago in Colombia and other countries in the region.

In the coming days there will be an international meeting where they will share biological solutions to problems of agricultural production, with the participation of exhibitors from Japan, Brazil, USA, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Costa Rica and Chile, among them: Health of soils (control of pathogens such as nematodes and fungi that cause diseases such as fusarium, phytophthora, among others), soil salinity, nutrient solubility and, in general, topics that will favor the microbiological equilibrium of soils and to provide alternatives to increase agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner, with lower production costs and taking care of soil fertility. It is the fourth time this meeting is held, but it is the first time it has been held in Chile.

This IV International Seminar "Agriculture in Harmony" will be held on August 08 at Hotel Neruda, located at Av. Pedro de Valdivia 164, Providencia. Your entry is released upon registration.
