Chilean exports increase 21,5% in first half of 2018 according to Central Bank

The value of Chilean exports increased by 21,5% in the first semester of 2018, showing a decrease in the month of June and in the middle of the international scenario as a result of the "Commercial war" between the great powers of the world.

A series of new figures released by the Central Bank during this day, where the 21,5% growth in the value of exports during the first half of 2018 compared to the same period last year, translates into 39.209 million dollars. A surplus of 5.511 million dollars in the balance of trade during the first six months.

However, in the month of June the surplus was 483 million dollars, the lowest monthly level of the year, which it is explained by a lower expansion of the sale of copper and the increase in imports, before serial exports to the month of May.

All this in the midst of international turbulence due to the trade war between the United States, China and European Union countries.

Scenario evaluated in the Government between the portfolios of Finance, Agriculture, the Direcon and Chancellery.

El Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, valued the figure of exports, but noted that the international situation concerns.

An 8,3% copper exports rose in June compared to the same month last year, all in the midst of the swings in the price of metal.

Today, after ten days of falls, copper recovered by trading at 2,89 dollars per pound on the London Metal Exchange.

The Plusmining economist, Juan Carlos Guajardo, analyzed the figures and commented that it will happen with this price in the coming days; in the middle of the "commercial war". .

All in all, the Government is going to improve its growth expectation of the Chilean economy upwards for this year, which is at 3,5%, something that will make the Minister of Finance, Felipe Larraín, this week; most likely tomorrow in Congress.
