Exports of Chilean blueberries exceed estimated volume for 2017-2018

The Chilean blueberry industry would be waiting to end this campaign with a new record of exports, with around 106 a thousand tons.

According to information provided by the Committee of Cranberries of Chile-ASOEX, through its Crop Report, prepared by IQonsulting, during the week 7-2018 exported 4.863 tons of fresh blueberries from Chile, reaching a cumulative total of 100.200 tons this 2017-2018 season, which is already in its final stage. With this figure this national industry last week week (8) was exceeding the initially estimated volume of 101.700 tons.

The reasons for this higher volume? “the good conditions for the development of the fruits and for the accomplishment of the workings of harvest have allowed to increase the percentage of export of the south zone, reason by which has reestimated the total volume of the season and it is hoped to reach the 106.000 tons , a new record of exports“, the Committee specifies in its report.

The Blueberry Committee also highlighted the fact that the United States, the main destination for domestic blueberries, "It has prepared well for increases in volume from South America, which with a more consistent weekly supply has allowed to maintain a firm demand, a situation that has also been observed in the other markets. To date, the distribution of shipments by market is 62,6% for North America; 24,4% Europe and 12,8% Asia".

Organic

As for exports of fresh organic blueberries, the report indicates that they fell this week after 4 consecutive weeks above 1.100 tons. Week 7 was 716 tons, but this represents a 15% share of the total volume of this fruit exported for the week. Meanwhile, the accumulated volume of organic blueberries at week 7 is 9.174 tons, 9,1% of the total shipped to the world.
