Export of blueberries grew 46% during the first semester of 2018 in Chile

The Chilean forestry industry registered the best first half of its history. According to figures from the ProChile organization, between January and July, US $ 16.612 million were collected for the delivery of food and fruits.

The report of the organism that promotes exports in the country highlights the increase of 46% in the delivery of blueberries to different markets in the world, if compared with the same period of the year 2017.

Being one of the few fruits that stands out in the list, these berries accumulated US $ 508 million in sales during the first six months of the year, a figure that far exceeds the US $ 480 million accumulated during the past year.

Internal work

For Jorge O'Ryan, director of ProChile, there are "different factors" that have been favorable for these very positive figures. He emphasized the fund for agricultural and forestry promotion of the agency, where the Ministry of Agriculture also cooperates.

"We finance activities such as fairs, trade missions, and other actions in conjunction with the private sector. There is a job of boosting exports with different tools that have been created over time "

On the background he mentioned, O'Ryan said he will have $ CLP 4.000 million in resources that will be used during 2019, and that it will not be until this August 28 that the entire schedule for that period is revealed.

He also said that "we are developing a lot of technology and innovation to give greater added value in food", which highlights the new packaging and machinery that keep fresh fruits.

He added that "Chilean companies are achieving a certain maturity and greater experience in what it means to export and in that sense, ProChile workshops and training throughout the country are contributing to this greater preparation."
