Successful Field & Forum 2020 held FallCreek in Jalisco

The massive field talk activity, which was attended by producers, consultants and technicians from Chile, Peru, Ecuador, United States, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, South Africa and Mexico, focused on The presentation of the genetic breeding program of Low and Zero Chill varieties, which offers a wide range of plants that guarantee optimal and very productive behavior in geographies and cold-free situations.

Last Monday, January 13 and Tuesday, January 14, a massive and varied participation was held in the Field & Forum Mexico 2020, which was invited by the renowned international company FallCreek, in the town of Tala, Jalisco, Mexico.

Divided into two groups, during a whole day of field activities, talks and conversation forums, 120 attendees were able to attend the exclusive nurseries of the international company and observe the behavior of the new and old varieties that FallCreek scientists and geneticists have perfected for the blueberry industry for more than 40 years, ever since Dave and Barbara Brazelton founded Fall Creek Farm & Nursery in Oregon in 1978. 


Markets and R&D

The host of the invitation to participate in the latest genetic research and R&D experiments, along with visits and field talks, was Cort Brazelton, co-CEO of Fall Creek, and in the program offered the different groups of assistants were able to participate from the exhibition by Hans Liekens, who analyzed the varied realities and aspects of the global blueberry market and its trends. At the same time, all the groups were able to visit plots destined for Research and Genetic Development in the varieties of the FallCreek catalog and participate in the test trials, among other R&D activities.

Absence of cold

The massive Field & Forum activity, in which Blueberries Consulting actively participated, was attended by producers, consultants and technicians from Chile, Peru, Ecuador, the United States, the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Morocco, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, South Africa and Mexico, focused on the presentation of the genetic program for the breeding of Low and Zero Chill varieties, owned by FallCreek, which offers a wide range of plants that guarantee optimal and highly productive behavior in geographies and situations of absence of cold . 

The participants were asked for a sensory exercise with respect to each of the varieties, which each observer was recording in annotation cards to obtain results by means of a final organoleptic score.

Mainly it was possible to obtain a lot of information regarding the performance of the varieties that are within the Collection program: Jupiter, Bianca and Atlas. 

Field talks

All the groups, composed of members from the different countries named and with different realities or roles within the blueberry production and export industry, actively participated in each of the scheduled activities, which they continued to share in the conversation at the time of meals or breaks.

On the third day, to end the successful Field & Forum Mexico 2020 activity carried out by FallCreek, the attendees went to the town of Zapopan to participate in a field visit to Rancho La Luna, in Jalisco, concluding the massive activity of field talks visiting other realities of orchards and different agronomic management in the cultivation of blueberries.
