Spain: Forecast for fall between 10% - 15% in fruit production with stone

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food convened, on Thursday, a new follow-up meeting of the stone fruit campaign, chaired by the Director General of Agricultural Production and Markets, Esperanza Orellana, in which it was reiterated that a smaller production that in the last campaign, located around an 10% -15%, with a more pronounced fall for plum and increase for the apricot.

In the meeting it was reiterated that the first part of the campaign has been characterized by the exceptional weather conditions of this year, with a long winter and wet and cold spring, which has led to the generic decrease in production.

It was also reported that the campaign was almost completed in the early zones, the entry into production of the Ebro Valley has occurred with a correct staggering, not affecting the market to not coincide with other production areas, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, which it also points out in its press release that it has been appreciated that as the campaign has progressed, the entry of medium-season varieties has improved the quality of the products.

As for contributions, the Ministry reports that in general terms are higher than last season. However, prices have been especially low in cases in which the weather has had a greater impact on quality, especially in the case of Extremadura.

The meeting was attended by representatives of agricultural and sectoral organizations, including FEPEX and its associations of the stone fruit sector, representatives of the processing and distribution industry.
