Arab Emirates, a very good market for Polish blueberries

"Since we export our blueberries to Dubai, each year the requests have been increasing by 60%"Explains Klaudia Szymańska, head of production in Poland and sales manager and partner of the company Rivia Global Ziyad AlHousani in the UAE. It is a product whose popularity in that area is on the rise and this means that today, the 70% of the total production of the country is exported. "It is a very demanding market with products and logistics, but they pay what corresponds"Explains Szymańska.

The blueberry campaign starts in Poland at the beginning of July, so it is a little early to offer data, although marketers and producers of this fruit are already preparing.

However, one can take into account that last year the campaign started with a price of 14 euros per kilo, and then it was oscillating between the 12 euros and the 6.9 euros, as the highest and lowest values on average. "These data usually depend, mainly, on weather conditions, in addition to the volume of production and demand"Says Szymańska. However, "At the moment there is a great demand for black gold. Prices are still high and will probably remain that way for some more campaigns", Adds Szymańska.

Logistics is another point to consider, says this Polish company. "Transport to the Emirates is carried out by ship, having to cover each pallet with thermal blankets to protect it and ensure a constant average temperature"Explains Szymańska. Although this is more work, it has the advantage that the goods arrive in a matter of one day and, therefore, fresher. "The transport to the rest of Europe is done by land, in refrigerated trucks, and always takes a couple of days or three"Says Szymańska, who obviously considers the process easier to organize.
