China looks at Ñuble for its organic food

With a population that exceeds the 1.400 million people, and sustained economic growth, China is a big attraction for Chilean exporters, especially in the area of food.

In this context, great interest was generated by the seminar "Organic food for the Chinese market", organized by the certification company Bioaudita and INIA (Agricultural Research Institutions) Quilamapu, attended by 120 assistants from the organic production sector in the south-central region of Chile, composed of farmers, technicians and export companies.

According to the organizers, Luis Meléndez de Bioaudita and Cecilia Céspedes of INIA Quilamapu, this activity aimed to raise awareness of the requirements of the Chinese market to export green and organic food to the Asian giant, for which Liu Ping was present. , deputy director of the Green Food Development Center of China (CGFDC), and Xia Zhaogang, deputy director of the China Organic Food Certification Center (COFCC).

FRUITS, WINES AND DAIRIES

The managers showed the Chinese consumer's interest in having more quantity and variety of Chilean organic products, since in that market the quality of national shipments is highly recognized. For now, they indicated that the interest aims to have larger volumes of blueberries, cherries and wines.

"We see a lot of future for Chilean organic products, especially fruits," said deputy director Liu Ping. "Our visit was focused on orienting Chilean organic farmers on how to enter our market."

He argued that the great advantage that Chile has is to generate food against the station, which allows them to "eat cherries and blueberries that are summer fruits when we are in winter. That is, when we have a shortage in the market for these products, it is the moment that Chilean products enter. "

But not only fruits are part of Chinese interest, but also organic wines and organic dairy products, basically milk powder intended for children's nutrition.

CHINESE NEW YEAR

A fact that is of great interest is that the sale of Chilean fruit is always concentrated in the months in which the Chinese New Year is celebrated (around the first days of February of each year). "In this period (of about 15 days) there is a lot of consumption, not only to eat, but also to make gifts. So, when an imported organic fruit is given, this gift has great value, "said Liu Ping. He added that among the most recognized fruits for gifts are cherries, blueberries, table grapes and kiwis.

Finally, the Chinese director said that a very important aspect that Chile should consider is transport, since fruits "should be able to support the trip of about 45 days. Good fruit and good transport are essential. "

At the end of the day and in a meeting with the Regional Director of INIA Quilamapu, Rodrigo Avilés, the executives agreed to work on a collaboration agreement in research areas with INIA, for which mechanisms will be established to materialize this desire soon.
