Chile: Cranberry exports are within the expected volumes

The last harvest report of the Committee of Cranberries of Chile indicates that the harvest of the week 52 recovered with respect to the previous week, when reaching 9.780 tons, produced mainly in the central zone of the country. "Thus, the accumulated to date has 46.556 tons, very in line with the estimates, and an 1,6% more than the previous season in the same week."

Andrés Armstrong, executive director of the Committee of Blueberries, explains that, for the moment, the port strikes have not been any problem for the export of blueberries. "Our exports have been sent from other ports in Chile, so the outflow of fruit has been normal. Until the 52 week, our shipments are within the forecast and a bit above last year, although we have had hail storms that have affected some of our blueberry orchards a few weeks ago. "

The 9.780 tonnes exported during the 52 week went to North America (49%), Europe (36%) and Far East (15%). The report indicates that organic blueberries continue with increasing volumes, with 636 tons exported in the 52 week. With this, 3.595 has been exported to date, an increase of 39% with respect to the same week of the previous year. Although North America continues to be the main destination for organic production, Europe stands out, where the accumulated volumes have doubled compared to the previous season.

In addition to the port strike, another issue that is news is the active forest fires in the same area. "As regards the fires, the alarm has been activated due to possible fires because the weather conditions are favorable these days and there have been some fires. The blueberries from those areas have already been harvested, so our blueberry sector has not been affected, "says Andrés.
