Chile: Update of the blueberry season

The Cranberry Committee of Chile has published reports on its exports. If we compare the export statistics at the beginning of this 2017 / 2018 season with the same weeks of the previous season 2016 / 2017, the total tonnage exported in November was much lower. However, since the 50 week this changes completely. As can be seen in the following graph, during the 50 week a total of 8.889 tons was exported, compared to the 8.019 tons during the 50 week of the previous season. In the 51 week, a greater volume of 10.820 tons was exported compared to the 8.910 tons.

In the last update that the committee published, it is explained that in week 51 around 10.000 tons were expected to be shipped. However, this was exceeded with a volume of 10.820 tons. “Of this total, 5.975 tons were destined for the United States (58.5%). This means that this volume will arrive in week 1 to this market, however, this week it has already received a significant quantity of around 4.000 tons, corresponding to the shipments of week 50."

It is mentioned that in the 50 week, Europe and the Far East were important import markets for conventional fresh blueberries. The ecological offer was sent mainly to the United States.

There is no update with real statistics for the 52 week, however, it is forecast to be between 7.000 and 8.000 tons. This lower volume is due to the holiday at the end of the year, according to the committee, which reduces the number of working days. Even so, compared to the amount of 4.427 tons in the 52 week in the previous season, it's a huge increase.
