The Association of Producers and Exporters of Strawberries of Huelva, Freshuelva, has reported that, according to the data provided by the associated companies, the planted area of ​​strawberry amounts to 6.105 hectares, minimally less, close to 2%, than the 6.217 hectares planted with strawberries last season.

The blueberry is the only berrie that presents an increase in its surface, specifically of 7,20% with a total of 3.310 hectares, for the 3.089 planted last season. This situation is mainly due to the shrub that enters commercial production after three years of its plantation.

The agrarian organization has verified a greater varietal diversification in this berrie, with a special increase in the early varieties that allow access to the market from the beginning of the year or even at Christmas holidays, although with small tonnages.

On the contrary, the negative data has been presented by the raspberry, whose planted area decreases by 10%, going from the 2.300 hectares planted in the last season to the 2.070 that will be in the present, which will not be in production at the same time, since the varietal diversity allows to collect raspberries in autumn and spring.

The surface of the blackberries, on the other hand, stabilizes in the same 145 hectares planted in the past season.

Freshuelva has highlighted that these data show that the commitment to the diversification of crops started in previous campaigns is consolidated, thus guaranteeing the presence of Huelva berries in the markets for practically nine months of the year.

The red fruit sector is facing a new season that has been marked by subsequent rains after planting that have mostly been good, even though they have caused losses derived from a tornado and windsocks in the western part of the province , mainly in raspberry and blueberry plantations.
