Argentina: Blueberries celebrate competitiveness agreement announced by Macri

Among the most important modifications is the elimination of the maximum amount to be harvested per worker and an increase for employees between 23 and 25 percent.

The producers of the Argentine Blueberry Committee (ABC) expressed their support for the competitiveness agreement announced by President Mauricio Macri that "generates a lot of expectation in the sector ahead of the campaign that is beginning“. Among the most important changes is the elimination of the maximum amount to be harvested per worker and an increase for employees of between 23 and 25 percent.

With this decision, from the ABC they indicated that it is estimated to hire more than 500 approximate wages for the campaign that begins in August. “They are a great support of the levels of occupation in the productive regions“added Federico Bayá, president of ABC, which represents 80 percent of Argentine blueberry exports.

"We will continue supporting the national policy of opening to the world“, pointed out Bayá, while adding: “we must continue on this path and get the Argentine blueberries to enter the Chinese market, a center that is fundamental for the growth of activity and a gateway to new export destinations".

Another of the important points announced by Macri was the "firm will" of the signatories of the agreement "for the eradication of unregistered work, precarious work and child labor“. In this sense, it is worth noting that the ABC is already an active member of the Network of Companies against Child Labor - which operates under the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security - and has been working on "policies and actions to raise awareness, awareness and prevention about child labor in our sector".

From the regional institutions members of ABC as well, preventive actions are being developed in conjunction with the COPRETI (Provincial Commissions for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor) of each zone.
