Peruvian blueberries increase their participation in the Chinese market

After the opening of the Chinese market for blueberries from Peru at the end of 2016, shipments of this fruit to the Asian Giant have achieved an export volume of 4 thousand tons.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru (Mincetur), in 2017, blueberry shipments to China totaled USD 34 million, which has positioned Peru as the second supplier for this market after Chile.

While up to the 2016, the 98% of the blueberries imported into China were covered by the Chilean offer.

The increase in the sale of Peruvian blueberries in the Asian giant has been due to the increase in the national production of blueberries and the opening of the Chinese market for the access of fresh fruit to that country.

In this way, China is positioned as the third market for the Peruvian fruit with an 10%, being below the United States with an 44% and the European Union with 39%.

According to data from Mincetur, during the 2017 shipments of Peruvian blueberries totaled USD 361 million, which means an increase of 50% compared to 2016, while the volumes exported had an increase of an 53% and FOB prices a low of an 2%.

Due to the above, Peru is in third place among the world's largest exporters of blueberries with an 12% share of the market, being surpassed by Spain (13%) and Chile (24%).
