Tucumán bets on the differentiation of its blueberries

Within the framework of the National Blueberry Week, which was celebrated from 14 to 20 in October with the mission of spreading and increasing the consumption of fresh fruit, Tucumán seeks to encourage local consumption and position the product as a fresh, natural and natural alternative. Healthy to the intake of snacks, sweets, snacks, school and work meals and desserts. Under the slogan "Better with Blueberries," this campaign involves all links in the value chain as target audiences.

At present, Tucumán has more than 1.000 hectares destined for the cultivation of blueberries, although it is interesting to note that the province is committed to the differentiation of the product by the quality of the fruit and the development of markets that value the production of organic fruit, informed the Secretariat of Productive Development of the Ministry of Productive Development of the Government of Tucumán.

Another differentiation tool that enhances the blueberry from Tucuman is recognition as a product of differentiated quality, through the obtaining and use of the Argentine Food Quality Seal. In this line, for three years, the Tucumán Food Directorate is working jointly with the National Food and Beverage Directorate, belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, with the aim of promoting obtaining of the Argentine Food Quality Seal by local companies.

The Food Department of Tucumán, in addition to conducting workshops to disseminate this tool and advise on its obtaining, since the year 2017 participates in the process of transfer of the Seal in an articulated manner with the NOA focal point of the national organization, making visits techniques to companies that submit the request for obtaining. In addition, as established by current regulations, once companies obtain the seal, representatives of the agency have the power to make visits during the campaign so that the use of the seal is monitored.

The Seal "Argentine Foods" is a registered trademark of free quality that distinguishes foods made in our country that comply with specific quality protocols and have a differentiated quality. Thus, the products have in their packaging the image of the Seal, which accompanies the trademarks and facilitates consumers the identification of national agri-food products, thus associating product and country of origin with the differentiated quality.

In general, the product that obtains the use of the Seal has - among other benefits - an additional 0,5% of the tariff position on export refunds, as well as the right to participate in fairs on the calendar of the Argentine Investment Agency and International Commerce and in exhibitions, seminars and rounds of national and international businesses. In addition, it has the institutional promotion of the products in the web catalog of the Argentine Food Seal, which means greater possibilities of communication with foreign buyers.

As an example of these forms of blueberry differentiation, there are currently six companies in Argentina that have the Quality Seal for fresh blueberries; Among them, the Tucuman company Citromax SACI The latter produces 160 hectares of blueberries, of which almost 38% corresponds to organic production.

Regarding the use of the Seal, the general manager of the company  Mariano BerminghamHe commented that this differentiation tool allows them to reach their clients abroad with blueberries of excellent quality, “convinced that at each stage of the production chain the requirements established in the protocol are met, which, in short, are those required by different markets. ”

As for the local production of this campaign, experts point out that the “arandanera” production chain has excellent expectations for the current year.
