Sekoya presents a new blueberry dispenser for retail
Sekoya® initially developed the Livie™ Dispenser as a response to the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which is about to become EU law. From 2030, several types of single-use plastic packaging will be banned, including disposable packaging for less than 1,5kg of unprocessed fresh fruit and vegetables. “With this new device we are seeing many new opportunities opening up,” says Hans Liekens, Director of Value Chain and retail from Sekoya.
The Livie dispenser is a simple refrigerated unit that holds 3kg of fruit. It is easy to clean and does not come into contact with the fruit during filling thanks to the patented Eco Box. There is the option to add a pedestal-shaped fridge below the dispenser that can hold four Eco Boxes with a total of 12kg of fruit for easy refilling in store. These volumes are based on current average sales per store to minimise the hassle of refilling.
The Livie dispenser only works with selected blueberries that meet a defined quality standard: size and firmness are essential to prevent them from turning into jam. “Our Livie dispenser represents a significant step forward in making blueberries available, wherever you go,” says Liekens.
The advantage of this device is the freedom for a supermarket or food service to choose a package that suits the needs of the consumer:
There are three size options available (small, medium or large tubs), and each organisation can decide which packaging material best suits their sustainability strategy (reusable, compostable or recyclable).
Sekoya has been active in the snacking blueberry supplier since 2020 offering large, crunchy and tasty blueberries with a long shelf life, 52 weeks a year.
