Peru and Colombia add new plant products to their commercial exchange

Hass avocado, pomegranate, blueberries, capsicum, grapefruit, pineapple, Tahiti lime, among others.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri) said today that Peruvian producers will export Hass avocado, pomegranate, blueberries, Capsicum and grapefruit to Colombia, while producers in this country will be able to send commercial loads of Hass avocado, pineapple and lime Tahiti to our market .

This is the corollary of the presidential commitments reached in the Medellin Declaration of the 2015, which are finally consolidated in the preparatory technical meeting on the occasion of the Presidential Meeting and V Peru-Colombia Binational Cabinet, which is held in Pucallpa.

Considering the antiquity of these commitments, Colombia had already accepted the access of blueberries and pomegranates from the 2018 and as of September 2 of this year, exports of Hass avocado, fruits of Capsicum and grapefruit will be added.

In the case of Hass avocado imported from Colombia, the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) of Peru has developed a work plan that establishes strict phytosanitary measures, which the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) must apply in the export process of Hass avocado to Peru.

Minagri announced an upcoming meeting of the binational committee on phytosanitary measures, a space where it will be possible to expand the list of products that could be exchanged between the two countries, subject to compliance with national regulations.

This ensures the availability of food and market for Peruvian farmers who will have access to the Colombian market, consisting of 45 million inhabitants.
