Peru prepares to export blueberries, avocados and pomegranates to Taiwan

Officials of the sanitary authority of Taiwan traveled to Peru to verify the conditions and processes to which the blueberries are submitted, in order to authorize the export of these berries.

The visit of the members of the Inspection and Quarantine Office of Animal and Plant Health of Taiwan (BAPHIQ) aimed to recognize the actions that are carried out in terms of control, quarantine and supervision to export products. Pest-free fresh from Peru, as reported by Senasa.

The representative of the embassy of Taiwan, Ivan Yueh-Jung Lee commented that "to open markets to fresh fruits, the most important thing is health."

"We have an order, first the blueberry, then we want to promote the avocado and the Peruvian pomegranate," added the representative of Taiwan in Peru.

For his part, the Director of Plant Quarantine of BAPHIQ, Chen, Tse-Wei stressed that Peru already exports asparagus and grapes to the Asian country, so achieving access to blueberries should present no obstacle.

He also stressed that one of the main interests of his team is related to the control of the fruit fly in the gardens.

In the same line, the general director of Plant Health of Senasa Peru, Moisés Pacheco said that "the fruit fly will not be a problem for export."

Pacheco also invited the Taiwanese delegation to visit the Hass avocado industry during the visits to the departments of La Libertad, Ica and Lima to verify the sanitary and innocuous actions that the sector carries out for export.

On the other hand, the Senasa representative indicated that currently Peruvian grenades are exported to destinations such as the United States, Indonesia, India, Russia and some European countries.
