Peru intensifies search for new markets in Europe and Asia in the face of U.S. tariffs.

Peru has intensified its search for new markets in Europe and Asia for agricultural products in the face of the 10% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, the ministry reported on Monday. Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, indicating that they are providing assistance to exporting companies in this context.
In a statement, the ministry indicated that the minister of this portfolio, Desilu Leon, explained to a congressional committee that they are looking for countries to export products such as blueberries, grapes, coffee, and asparagus.
«Through actions such as the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promo) – with commercial intelligence and direct support – we are generating new business opportunities in Asia, Europe and Oceania,” said the minister.
He added that, with the support of the Commercial Offices Abroad (OCEX), are providing direct assistance to exporting companies to facilitate their internationalization.
During his presentation to the legislative committee, León emphasized the importance of the United States as a trading partner for Peru, as the second largest destination for its total exports and the main buyer of Peruvian agricultural exports.
"Our trade agreement has played a fundamental role in facilitating trade between both countries," he said.
In response to the new 10% tariff imposed by the United States, the Ministry is leading a multisectoral group that has defined a comprehensive response, working on three fronts: monitoring and evaluating international measures and commitments, economic impact, and mitigation strategies and market diversification.
He recalled that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism has maintained communications with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR, for its acronym in English).
"Along these lines, Peru continues its technical dialogue, addressing issues of common interest to explore possible cooperation mechanisms," he added.
Finally, he reported that through the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú), key strategies for trade promotion are being implemented, one of which is to gain greater positioning in the United States, given that there are companies that, despite the tariff measure, are interested in remaining in this market.
