PASO: Exports of organic products increased 5,3% in the first quarter of 2019

During the first quarter, US $ 105,3 million were exported in organic products, with an increase of 5,3% when compared to the same period of the previous year. This was reported by María Emilia Undurraga, director of the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa). The executive said that organic production is a sustainable production system, which shows growing development, both nationally and globally.

The most exported organic products in the first quarter of 2019 were fresh blueberries (US $ 68 million) and frozen blueberries (US $ 7,5 million); wines with designation of origin (US $ 9,6 million); raspberries, strawberries and frozen blackberries (US $ 9,5 million), apple pulp preparations (US $ 2,2 million).

In volume, in January-March 2019 shipped 22.393 tons in organic products, with an increase of 8,4%, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The main countries of destination for Chilean organic products were the United States (71%) The Netherlands (10%), Canada (5%), the United Kingdom (3,6%), Odepa, besides being the technical secretariat of the National Commission of Agriculture Organic, which is chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, provides statistical information of interest to the organic sector through articles, studies and news.

The figures in value of organic products are subject to revision by the Value Change Report (IVV), since fruits are sold on consignment.
