Morocco becomes Norway's top supplier of berries

The Kingdom doubles its share in Norway and leaves Portugal behind in the midst of agri-food expansion towards northern Europe.

Morocco has achieved an unprecedented milestone in its strategy to penetrate Scandinavian markets: for the first time, more than half of the fresh raspberries and blackberries consumed in Norway bear the mark of Moroccan farms. Between July 2025 and June 2026, the Kingdom shipped 707 tons of these berries to the Nordic country, with a value exceeding 9,3 million euros, according to data from the specialized platform EastFruit.

The volume represents a 22% increase compared to the previous season and consolidates Morocco's position as Norway's leading supplier, ahead of Portugal, whose shipments fell by almost 27% during the same period. The final difference in favor of the Kingdom was 215 tons.

The peak came in May 2026, when Norwegian imports from Morocco soared to 216 tons, more than double the amount in the same month of the previous year. This date is strategic: it marks the link between the end of the winter import season and the start of limited Norwegian domestic production, hampered by adverse weather conditions for berry cultivation.

The qualitative leap in Norway is not an isolated case. The Kingdom is carrying out a trade offensive in Northern Europe that also includes sweet peppers: between October 2025 and April 2026, Norway imported 620 tons of Moroccan peppers, 2,3 times more than in the same period the previous year. Morocco, already the world's sixth-largest exporter of berries with 245.000 tons of fresh and frozen fruit in 2024-2025, is thus demonstrating its ability to compete in the most demanding markets.
