Morocco is gaining ground in Spain and is leading among suppliers outside the European Union
Morocco maintained its position as Spain's main non-EU supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables during the first four months of 2026. Between January and April, Spanish imports from that origin reached 710 million euros, 5,6% more than in the same period of 2025.
This is shown by data from the Spanish Department of Customs and Special Taxes, analyzed by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers-Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Live Plants (FEPEX).
In terms of volume, Morocco shipped 232.993 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables to Spain during the period analyzed. France remained the leading global supplier to the Spanish market, with 494.547 tons, placing Morocco second overall and first among non-EU countries.
Spanish imports from non-EU countries grew overall by 6,5% in volume, to 895.791 tons, while the value of those shipments increased by 9%, to 1.503 million euros.
Considering all origins, Spain's total imports of fresh fruit and vegetables reached 1,7 million tons, valued at €2.095 billion. These figures represent a year-on-year increase of 6% in volume and 4% in value.
According to FEPEX, non-EU suppliers accounted for 72% of the total value of Spanish imports of fresh products during the period and 52% of the total volume, exceeding the combined share of the Member States of the European Union.
Among non-EU exporters, Peru ranked second after Morocco, with shipments valued at €183 million. Costa Rica followed with €113 million, and Brazil with €87 million.
