Freshuelva advances in the opening of the Brazilian market for the export of blueberries

Freshuelva has taken a further step in its work by opening new markets for the commercialization of red fruits from the province of Huelva. In this case, it advances in the signing of a protocol that allows the opening of Brazil to the sale of Huelva blueberries.

In this sense, a delegation of Brazilian inspectors has known 'in situ' the blueberry production systems in the province of Huelva through a visit to the blueberry farms of the associated companies of Freshuelva Euroberry and Grupo Medina.

The objective of this visit is to verify on the spot compliance with the requirements established in the export protocols, which are now being negotiated, for the opening of the Brazilian market for the export of these fruits.

This is another step in the processing of the file that allows blueberries from the province of Huelva to be exported with all the guarantees of commercialization and consumption to the Brazilian country, interested in being able to buy this Berry from Huelva.

In the process of opening new markets in third countries for the export of Spanish fruits and vegetables, the signing of specific protocols is part of the process, which includes as a requirement the visit to the farms of Spanish companies interested in exporting, in order to verify in situ compliance with the phytosanitary requirements established in said protocols.

The Brazilian delegation was made up of two agronomists from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA in the Portuguese acronym), who were accompanied by representatives of the General Sub-Directorate of Sanitary Agreements and Border Control of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Spanish food.

Agriculture, together with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, is the one who heads the negotiation and signing of export protocols with the corresponding authorities of third countries to which Spanish producers want to access. This work is carried out in coordination with the sector, which defines the products and countries to which it wants to export, within the framework of the Fruit and Vegetable Working Group for the opening of new markets.

Freshuelva, which through Fepex has participated in the organization of this visit, which has also had the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Junta de Andalucía, has highlighted the importance of overcoming this new procedure that allows the completion of the work begun in order to export blueberries to Brazil.

In addition to opening the Brazilian market, Freshuelva is working on the processing of other files that allow the export of blueberries to other countries such as Canada, India, South Africa or China.

During the past season, the province of Huelva exported almost 55.000 tons of blueberries, which represented a slight decrease of 2% compared to the fruit exported in the previous season. This commercialization had a value of almost 317 million euros, which, on the contrary, meant an increase in the value of this berry of more than 14% compared to the previous season.
