They export more than 40 thousand boxes of blueberries under the systems approach method

Through this system it is possible to export fruit without fumigating with methyl bromide, which allows to improve the quality and health of the product.

An important advance in fruit exports to the United States had the Coquimbo region this season through the SAG-USDA Inspection Site, through which 44.977 boxes of blueberries were exported, unpublished export through the Systems Approach review method that It allows the export of fruit without it being fumigated with methyl bromide, which allows to export fruit of better quality and with lower production costs.

It should be noted that the “Systems Approach” is a method that is applied to the entire production chain in fruit crops and that prevents fumigation with methyl bromide, improving the quality of the agricultural product and allowing its entry into markets such as the United States , since it approves the access of products that have low or no prevalence of present quarantine pests such as Lobesia botrana and Brevipalpus chilensis.

In this regard, the seremi of Agriculture, Rodrigo Órdenes said that “as the Ministry of Agriculture, our goal is to ensure that the region can increase its commercial flows and we hope to achieve this by facilitating exports through the strengthening of mechanisms such as the Systems Approach that allows us to improve the competitiveness with respect to other markets, thus achieving that our exporters can export more and more products in a more efficient way ”.

In turn, the regional director of the SAG, Jorge Navarro, explained that “this progress in exports has been achieved thanks to the work we have done with the agricultural producers and the field work that the SAG has done to reduce the presence in the Pest region like Lobesia botrana. During the last season we raised 13 regulated areas, leaving the region with a total of 7 regulated areas, of which only one is located in a rural area, so it has been a tremendous work that brings us closer to the goal of being able to declare ourselves in the medium term as free of this plague in the region ”.

It should be noted that for this season 2019-2020 more than 2.500 traps were installed in regulated urban control areas of the communes of Canela, La Serena and Coquimbo (Tongoy), in addition to 83.500 emitters of sexual confusion, which is a device that It emits the pheromone of the female with the aim of attracting the male and preventing the reproduction of the insect.
