Europe represents 37% of Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports

Peruvian exports continue to rise, especially in products such as blueberries, with an increase of 54% more in 2019 compared to the previous year.

Peru will arrive at Fruit Logistica 2020, the most important fruit and vegetable fair in the world, with a record delegation, adding 36 exhibitors that include the most
important guilds of exporters and producers, adding more than 400 entrepreneurs from eight Peruvian regions, reported PROMPERÚ.

With a pavilion of 520 square meters, the Peruvian delegation hopes to keep 1.200 meetings with representatives from all corners of the world, including production companies, packaging companies, exporters, suppliers of machinery and supplies for agribusiness. Also, in this 18ª participation, Peru is preparing to receive about 15 visitors during the three days of the event.

“Peru has a great offer of fresh products that the world is knowing. We are one of the leading food suppliers in the world and thanks to the participation of Peruvian entrepreneurs - of which 38% participate for the first time - we will consolidate our presence in this fair ”, highlighted the executive president of PROMPERÚ, Luis Torres.

FOOD FOR THE WORLD
Peru is known worldwide for being the cradle of a wide range of products. Their biodiversity given by the different climatic zones allows them to produce a great variety of high quality products, increasingly recognized by international markets.

Among these international markets Europe is key for Peru, it is the second destination market of our fruit and vegetable exports, representing 37% of total exported in 2019. Europe is a market that buys the world more than US $ 98 billion in fruits and vegetables andin which, for the moment, just over 2.3% is of Peruvian origin.

In order to position the quality of our products in Europe, Peru will be presented at Fruit Logistica 2020 with sectoral brands Super Foods Peru, Cafes of Peru and Pisco, Spirit of Peru.

It is also expected that the design of its pavilion is inspired by the Inca research center of Moray, whose circular terraces have been considered as one of the first agricultural laboratories of mankind.

On the other hand, it should be noted that our participation this year will mark a milestone in the promotion of Peru as an agro-export destination, linking the origin of fresh products to tourist routes, highlighting the respect for the environment and sustainability.

FIGURES
Agroexports are the second currency generator for Peru. Since 2000, its export figures have experienced an exponential increase, from US $ 700 million to US $ 7 billion, thus positioning itself as a key commercial ally for international markets.

The latest published reports, which contemplate exports carried out by Peru between January and November 2019, reveal that the export trend continues to rise. Avocado exports grew to US $ 741 million (+ 3%), followed by blueberries with figures above US $ 733 million (+ 54%) or grapes, with a total export figure of US $ 599 million (+ 11%).
