Argentina: Concordia will be established as a "productive oasis" of blueberries

The Association of Cranberry Producers of the Mesopotamia Argentina (APAMA) together with the Senasa, take the reins over the production of blueberries to establish the Concordia area as a "productive oasis".

Now, what is a productive oasis?

They are areas with special care and conditions generated by natural barriers or well established with management measures.

Among the strengths of the area, are: the sandy texture, the depth of its soils, the abundance and unbeatable quality of its water resources, which together with its heliophany generate optimal conditions for the manifestation of the genetic potential of the varieties that are grown in the area, thus generating a unique flavor to the fruit.

Thanks to these conditions, the production is concentrated between the months of September and November, an optimal commercial window for the fruit of the southern hemisphere.

In this context, it seeks to enhance these qualities and establish blueberries in the area with their own brand, giving an added value to such precious fruit for the most demanding markets.

A first step in that direction was the working day shared by specialized technicians from SENASA, both from Concordia and the headquarters in Buenos Aires, and authorities and technicians from APAMA, in which they exchanged perspectives and needs for planning that consolidate the added value of local production.

"Concordia and the region have unique opportunities in terms of soil and climate. The varieties that we produce here are those that are most requested in the world and the taste of our fruit is the most required, that is why we seek that the quality of the production reaches the excellence and that this excellence is endorsed by the national and international control organisms. international"Explained the president of APAMA, Alejandro Pannunzio.

"With this project, we are firmly committed to being a leading actor in the markets of the world, which year after year add new competitors. We are in a position to dispute the best gondolas of the big consumers, in the United States, Canada and Europe, and to compete internationally with a product that we know is coveted for its taste and quality".

"We are working to cover all fronts and our production is maximized, growing as producers, but also as a central actor in regional economies", Concluded Pannunzio.

To achieve the recognition of the area as a "productive oasis", SENASA will have the technical supervision to corroborate the phytosanitary status of the area, and at the same time ratify that the permanent controls made by producers and advisers are the correct ones.
