Fresh blueberries break export record in November 2019

Product became the second most exported within the fresh fruits and vegetables sector

The fresh blueberry broke export record in November 2019, ranking as the second product with the highest shipments, previously occupied by the grape, with a total figure of 733 million dollars, 64% more compared to the same period of 2018, reported today the Association of Agricultural Producer Guilds of Peru (AGAP).

He said he continues to lead the list, Hass avocado with shipments for 743 million dollars (2.8% growth), not to mention the outstanding performance of the grape with 599 million dollars (28%) and citrus with 205 million dollars (3%).

As for the exports of mango and organic banana, although both registered a slight decrease, they had shipments of 201 million dollars and 140 million dollars, respectively.

This subsector of fresh fruits generally had a growth of 17.3%, equivalent to 2,739 million dollars, while the vegetable sector registered an increase of 12.57%, equivalent to 475 million dollars, highlighting the asparagus with shipments for 349 million dollars (8%), followed by onion with 76 million dollars (30%), peas with 30 million dollars (28%) and garlic with 14 million dollars (41%).

The main destination markets for both Peruvian fruits and fresh vegetables were North America with 1,384 million dollars, Europe with 1,298 million dollars and Asia with 339 million dollars.

Regarding coffee, this registered shipments for 548 million dollars (-9%), while cocoa for 269 million dollars (12%).

As of November 2019, the agricultural sector had a total growth of 7%, equivalent to 6,130 million dollars, and continued to be the second largest export sector in the country.
